How puppies learn about driving in a trailer (behind a bicycle)?
I'm looking into getting a dog trailer for the back of my bike (See link below). I love to ride and drive often. But since I got a cocker puppy a few months back (he is now 4 months old) I could not ride because I have chosen to walk / run him instead of riding. I do not intend to replace this exercise, I just really want him to come and enjoy themselves. Said having, what would the best way for him the idea of the trailer / bike / run along behind me? I hate to just throw him in cold turkey and start riding. What some progressive steps I could take to get him used to it? I have an idea if you are looking for the soft approach. Bring the trailer in the home and allow the cocker toys to play with or sleep there. Let him get used to it as a safe place. Hook it to your bike and a toy or chew he loves, along with a bed that he accustomed. This will be his safe place and just go ride a small room until you are sure of its comfort level. If he takes to it right away, you got yourself a new partner driving. If he is disturbed and frightened – just enjoy a few short trips locally until he has adjusted. I love that you do. Your puppy should such a happy boy are!
