How To Use A Bicycle Trainer To Improve Your Health
Using a stationary bike trainer is a great way to get a focused and efficient workout even through the off season. When using a stationary trainer generally each hour is said to be the equal to two hours on the road as there are no breaks, traffic or distractions. This makes it a highly effective way to improve your bike training.
A fluid trainer is a kind of stationary bike trainer that uses a special fluid to give resistance. A fluid trainer differs to some other stationary trainers as the fluid replicates the feel of training on the road more realistically. This is achieved by giving an exponential resistance as the force applied increases. Fluid trainers are also typically less noisey than other bicycle trainers such as wind trainers and mag trainers – which use air and magnets to provide the resistance.
In some fluid trainers you’ll find the fluid changes its viscosity as it heats up with use -this means the resistance is less realistic. Kurt Kinetic, who make fluid trainers, claim this does not happen with their range of bike trainers and certainly the power curve they demonstrate mirrors that of an on road rolling resistance. Another aspect they have is a completely sealed, and therefore leak proof, chamber for the fluid. This is achieved through a magnetic connection through the housing.
Using a fluid trainer, or other kind of stationary bike trainer, can give you greater endurance. Not only will it give you the ability to train when its too dark or when you have limited time, but it also said that, due the focused nature of your bike training when using one, each hour on an indoor trainer counts for two hours on the road giving you a much more time efficient workout.
