travel period before the Internet
I travel for more than 40 years – by thumb in my early days, boots in the Scouts, a Lambretta came on next and then My first old Banger followed by newer old bangers to the beaches of the Costa Brava.
My thumb, boots, bikes and bangers took me all over Europe and the United Kingdom the finding that a charter flight to Spain on an old 'Connie' could get me to the beaches and bars a lot quicker and is more time to explore local transport by horse and cart and the occasional bus and train to enjoy.
"Go West and Prosper" seemed a good idea instead of 8 hours continuous flight I took a 8 days transatlantic crossing from Montreal to Tilbury on the Stephan Batory in Polish Ocean Lines to ensure that no effort jetlag my travel plans. A few years later I crossed the pond on a ship again, but this time it was 5 times bigger and I traveled
<a href = http://www.ticketfront.com> tickets </ a> in the style QE2 and Queen dined in the Grill's somewhat removed from my previous experiences. I highly recommend ocean travel, but can not see myself in one of the modern cruise ships go by port to port with a constant line-ups to get in and buy T-shirts. Yet I have done and a 10 Windjammers Star Clipper cruises in the Caribbean, who were all memorable (let us hope that Windjammer Barefoot Cruises recover from their misery). But I digress.
I read that Canada is a beautiful country, from sea to shining sea, and my entrance into the St. Lawrence River to Montreal and then to the west in an old Econoline from the Great Lakes, the prairies of the Rocky Mountains before ending off of whale watching Pacific Coast of Vancouver Island was a surprise trip to a guy from London. Today the scenery is still spectacular and the best way to go is still the way so renting or buying a car, camper or motorcycle, take the train or bus tour, but remember the cards, a fly rod, good boots and take your time.
My favorite part of Canada / United States adventure should be Northern BC / Alaska, to hike the Chilkoot Trail in the steps of the goldseekers of 1898. The Northwest Territories to canoe Nahannie the Yukon River and the drive from Dawson City to Chicken, Alaska. If you like the outdoors and can put up with a few bugs, cast a fly and scale a few hills or riding on the endless dirt roads sharing space with moose, caribou, moose, bears and eagles, these are the places to put on your list. The pleasures and experiences drive to Inuvik on the Dempster Highway and the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay or even the Canol Road can only be felt by doing them. I would have said the Alaska Highway, but now it is an easy ride as opposed to the above.
Today the cost of driving these distances may mean that parts of the journey with others is required, but just vanning and camping or RVing is a great way to look beyond the horizon. Some road adventures should be booked in advance so that when I walked Denali Pass and the Chilkoot It was just a case of turning on, registration with the local ranger office and head out. A little more planning is needed for today's traveler and cost considerations for long flights or drives must somehow be countered by more careful planning. In the days of reasonable gas prices, I would not even consider driving or flying costs and are driven to Key West from the northwest coast, down the west coast of the Baja and the west coast of New York. I once even flew my 1946 Taildragger Fleet of the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean and back with about 5 liter of Avgas one hours. Before the oil crisis and credit I drove from Rio de Janeiro to Lima, to Tierra del Fuego and back to Rio for more than 15,000 miles of spectacular scenery and without compensation on cost of gas. South America should also be on your route! Some other memorable drives that now is a mortgage with the gas companies include London to Nordkapp, Norway, Skippers Canyon in New Zealand and the loneliness of the far north of Australia and the beautiful coast of Western Australia to stop by at Monkey Mia and Wave Rock.
We tend forget that the actual travel costs
<a href=http://www.ticketfront.com> tickets </ a> is now often less than the 40 years of my travels. In 1977 my round-trip airfare from Canada to Australia cost more than $ 1700 in $ 1977 so today it is much cheaper to fly, even with the airlines kerving for fuel, extra baggage, no service and no fun. The "Big Mac" method of price comparison as developed by The Economist newspaper gives us a good indicator expenditure for most of today compared to yesterday, but my $ 1500 cost for a private pilot license in the years 1970 seems cheap compared to today, but obviously not when using the Big Mac principle. Other travel costs are also much cheaper today, but this should not mean people should ignore the many methods of storing of the costs that can then be expanded or improved travel experience
Post-travel Internet:
In my 40 years of travel I have to use travel agents even the simplest of the reservations and buy tickets do not even think to ask them whether they had "been there, done that?" It was just a case of that no other options for buying travel. Now we have unlimited choices and can find a better travel, better prices, better selections and information throughout world for our travel – without even leaving home.
The Internet now offers only ideas and options for Where, When to go, why go, what to do, who to book with and how to save money and offset costs. We can search and find experts for every travel option. If we are familiar with the Internet we no longer have to travel To reserve and purchase tickets, except for a book with some of the larger tour operators who still produce glossy brochures and offer all-inclusive packages or traveling sales through the agency system. The Internet also makes those of us who are smart enough to know where to find a top agent with knowledge, experience and expertise (KEE skills) of destinations and activities where they are found. There is no longer necessary to only use our local agents where we can find one somewhere else in the world. If we do not need have 'knowledge' and the self can we surf the web, so we can book directly with tour operators and travel wherever we decided to go.
Some travel agencies operate their own journeys, some are both wholesale and retail consumers select a certain limit only by selling their 'preferred' suppliers and some have professional consultants with years of experience invested in the acquisition of knowledge, experience and expertise and are worth their weight in gold the savvy traveler. Mind you, some as his destination specialists and some of these names mentioned merely require the agent to a rudimentary test offered by tourist offices to take destination marketing groups or tour operators and I think may harm the reputation of the travel industry. A specialist is not necessarily an expert.
Travel is probably the most used commercial aspect of the Internet and the retail agents to exploit this exciting medium can offer "their knowledge and skills' kee "to a global audience, not just their local community, they must embrace the changes that happen. Travelers now have the opportunity to answer the 5 W's of travel and the important 'how' and save money to offset the costs of information search by having only a click away.
And then it hit me that even Internet Travel prices often include a commission element, even directly to consumers. As we book directly with the operators we do not have full retail prices to pay if we are doing to ourselves as a retail agent normally would do for us. A dilemma for the operator to demonstrate that both a retail and an option would cost much agents to deter the sale of services, as travelers can use an agent for free advice and book directly with the operator to a "net-commission" Get Price. This course is two levels of pricing is not often available, but travelers who do not need advice should not be penalized by the retail prices. A new way had to be found and I think I found it!
The need for a fairer fare prices is the reason why I made the Top Travel Voucher Program at The Top Travel Club and I even found a dot com for. All travel selections on the site are in "exclusive committee" prices for Members who handle their own travel arrangements directly related the operators on the club website using our voucher program.
I invite tour operators from around the world to join this program, B & B's, motels, hotels, luxury lodges, Eco Resorts, and Beach Resorts and Adventure Tour Operators wishing to promote their products and services to the people who are comfortable with direct bookings and reservations.
I'm inviting travel agents with knowledge, experience and expertise of destinations and activities to present their skills to a global audience of the passengers and the members of this new travel club. I'm wary of "special agents" and only experts will present their services.
These option is available for the travel industry at no cost, except for them to offer net, wholesale or outlet prices for club members and visitors of the site with top vouchers. I think that this program offers a fairer fare prices direct-booking travelers. The operator would normally pay commission anyway so people get the savings, because their own arrangements making.
The Top Travel Club opened in mid April 2008 with thousands of top travel vouchers for more than 70 countries with about 150 travel agents aboard. Every week we add more entrepreneurs with more travel choices for members. Currently you can get savings on accommodation, adventure tours, boat charters, culinary tours, hiking, biking and diving tours, car and RV rentals fishing lodges and guides, safaris, apartments, single travel, only women and dude ranches. Members get the vouchers for free by paying of an annual subscription and non-members can purchase vouchers on the Internet at Top Travel Sites at deep discounted prices to the nominal value. Future growth will include restaurants, travel clothing, travel and the ability to ticket brokers who want direct access to consumers.
The way I've traveled and how I see that travel consumers unlimited access to all travel must be given the opportunity to do their own due diligence or a professional who can offer quality advice and services available at reasonable prices, and to all without finding endless hours of searching.
To learn more about the new way of compensation for travel costs to go The Top Travel Club and my apologies for some of the spelling (passenger / traveler), but that's what I learned. Until we all understand the meaning, vive le difference!
