How Mountain bikes have Evolved
As you can easily guess from the name, Mountain bikes are made for driving on unpaved roads. They were designed by cycling enthusiasts who like to explore on their bikes, but needed something more efficient than the bikes that were around at the moment. She could not just go out and buy Diamondback cycles: they were forced to invent their own MBs. With just a few simple tools and no money, they had to rely on their wits and determination.
They began with nice standard bike. Road and racing bikes were no good because their thin tires. Mountain bikes need fat tires for traction. Road bikes are made for pure speed. The skinny tires are there to create as little drag as possible, but they have poor traction.
What bikes have fat tired bikes do not have a good range of gears. The first mountain bikes were hybrids. She took the derailleurs of the best racing and added them to the awkward bikes they used on the trails.
